The Outreach Committee at the Church of the Holy Spirit brings together our parish family assisting our community with time, talents, and resources. We are committed to positive and constructive outreach activities where everyone can participate, grow in spiritual awareness, and enjoy the experience. For more information call or e-mail the church office.
Outreach activities currently include the following:
Cold Weather Shelter at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church – Food, toiletries, paper products, and cleaning supplies are collected and donated.
Worcester County Giving Other Lives Dignity (GOLD) – The Church of the Holy Spirit adopts children for “back to school” and at Christmas. Required school supplies are collected in August for children and are delivered in backpacks to the residence with a little note attached wishing each student a successful school year. At Christmas, approximately 5 families are adopted and a variety of gifts including items needed for the child along with a few toys are delivered to the family residences prior to Christmas.
gLOVEs – Church of the Holy Spirit sponsors a gLOVEs drive near Valentines day, collecting gLOVEs, hats, socks, and scarves. Parishioners volunteer and provide donations to support the local community.
Shepherd’s Crook at St. Paul’s by-the-Sea Episcopal Church – The church has a basket for weekly donations for the food pantry. Parishioners also assist with the activities at Shepherd’s Crook by delivering the food items, volunteering at the pantry, and preparing lunches.
“Souper” Bowl Sunday – Cans of soup are collected on Super Bowl Sunday and delivered to local food pantries. The Sunday School and Youth Groups are active participants each year.
Hope4Recovery – Meals are provided by parishioners monthly for the Hope4Recovery House, a transition home for men recovering from addictions. This is done with The Ocean Cluster of Episcopal Churches – Church of the Holy Spirit (North Ocean City), St. Paul’s by-the-Sea (South Ocean City), and St. Paul’s (Berlin)
Worcester County Humane Society – The Sunday School and Youth Group organize a yearly collection of food and items for the cats and dogs at the local Humane Society.
COHS also provides financial donations to local organizations including the Ocean City Fire Department and the Worcester County Sheriff’s Fund.
